Read – Grains Of Paradise (Paradoxine) – Supplement Breakdown
WHAT IS GRAINS OF PARADISE?
Grains of Paradise (also known as Aframomum Melegueta) is a spice native to West Africa that belongs to the same botanical family as ginger. With sport’s supplements it is usually labelled under Paradoxine®. Paradoxine is a standardized extract of the Grains of Paradise seed and is a registered product produced by Shanghai Yongyi Biotechnology.
Inside the Grains of Paradise seed there are lots of similar chemical components such as 6-paradol, 6-gingerol, 6- shogaol & 6-gingerdione. The proprietary matrix of these chemical components in the Paradoxine® extract are referred to as ‘Aframols’. The Paradoxine® extract is standardized to contain a minimum of 15% Aframols and, in particular, 12.5% 6-paradol.
WHAT DOES IT DO/WHY USE IT?
In the human body there are two types of adipose tissue (body fat), WAT (White Adipose Tissue) and BAT (Brown Adipose Tissue). WAT is the tissue that is responsible for storing the excess energy consumed through our diet. Whereas BAT is the tissue used for cold and diet-induced thermogenesis which plays a role in the bodies energy expenditure as well as body fat content.
Paradoxine® has been found to help convert WAT into BAT, therefore converting the energy storing fat tissue into the fat tissue that helps increase thermogenesis and total calorie expenditure. Studies, in humans, have shown subjects who consumed Paradoxine® had greater BAT activity than those who had a placebo.
Another study found that subjects who consumed Paradoxine® had greater decreases in body fat around the lower abdominals as well as lower levels of visceral fat in the same area when compared to those who consumed a placebo, with both groups NOT making any dietary or exercise changes.
WHEN DO I TAKE IT and how much?
Most supplements containing Paradoxine® are designed to be taken once or twice a day and their dosing of Paradoxine® ranges from 20-30mg per serve.
The majority of products containing Paradoxine® are fat burning supplements; either stimulant based, or more commonly, stimulant free formulas. Therefore the best time to take Paradoxine® is first thing in the morning and/ or before your cardio/ training session.
The daily clinical dose of Paradoxine version of Grains of Paradise is 30mg – 50mg.
Therefore depending on which supplement you choose you may be able to get away with one 30mg serve per day or you may need to have two 20-25mg serves per day to fasten results in fat loss and increased energy expenditure.
we suggest one serve first thing in the morning and a second serve to be taken early afternoon or before your evening training session.
